At Neal’s Yard Remedies, we’ve pioneered proven, powerful and planet-conscious wellbeing and beauty since our beginnings in 1981. For 45 years, we’ve crafted award-winning and cult-favourite products in a way that respects and preserves the biodiversity of our natural world.
One of the ways that we honour this commitment to the planet is through our pledge to protect pollinator populations from decline, a cause we have championed since 2011.
This World Bee Day, we’re continuing our mission to pave the way for a brighter future for pollinators and raise awareness about these vital creatures. To this end, we’ve partnered with Bees for Development to give you the chance to win a World Bee Day Bundle worth over £160, featuring favourites from our Bee Lovely collection and an exclusive Bella Freud ‘Pollinate’ T-shirt.
Happy World Bee Day!
Declared an International Day of Recognition by the UN in 2017, World Bee Day is dedicated to highlighting the importance of pollinators in the preservation of our global ecosystem, and the significant threats that they face.
Pollinators play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity and our food sources, with 1 in every 3 mouthfuls of food depending on their hard work. Days and initiatives dedicated to these important creatures are crucial in spreading awareness of their declining population and everyone, no matter how small the action, can play a part in their protection.
Stand by Bees
Since 2011, Anabel Kindersley, CEO and Co-owner of Neal's Yard Remedies, has been campaigning for bees – having hand-delivered a petition of 117,000 signatures to Downing Street leading to an EU-wide ban on three toxic neonicotinoids. Anabel’s unwavering commitment to the protection of bees has been profound. Most recently, when the British government granted emergency re-authorisation for harmful pesticides, Anabel formed the #StandByBees campaign, rallying 105 British businesses and NGOs to collectively lobby against bee-killing pesticides in the UK. This remarkable persistence paid off.
Thanks to the continued campaigning, the emergency use of the pollinator-killing pesticide, Cruiser SB, was finally denied on 23 January 2025.
Neonicotinoid Cruiser SB has a catastrophic impact on our pollinator populations. Just a single teaspoon of the pesticide can kill up to 1.25 billion bees. This exceptional win for the #StandByBees campaign was a clarion call for pollinator preservation and a testament to Anabel’s incredible resilience in the fight to protect our planet’s delicate ecosystem.
